Teacher – Secondary nurture classes
Aurora Eccles school is a caring community where relationships are the heart of all we do; in our ‘serene' (ISI, 2024) school we provide fantastic education, care, and personal development opportunities to about 230 students, all of whom have an education, health, and care plan. Our students have wide ranging abilities (with Y11 outcomes from pre-entry level through to higher GCSE) and a variety of additional needs; our offer is class-based, and we are ambitious that all of our students will be able to work successfully alongside their peers. Some students work in nurture classes with the same teacher for most of the day, others have subject-specialists visit them throughout the day.
We're currently looking for an experienced Teacher to join our school. With small classes, a maximum of 10 students and a minimum of 3 staff per class you can focus on the needs of each student. There is a full clinical team onsite to support at all times and you will have the support of an experienced and stable SLT.

Although we are a school for secondary-aged students, we have many primary-trained and experienced colleagues in our team, all of whom have successfully transferred their skills and knowledge to the secondary range leading to great outcomes for their students. In our staff surveys, colleagues report consistently that they are happy and feel safe at work. Teachers who come to us report enjoying professional autonomy within a supportive framework.
Your Role:
To provide high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences through the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum which you will have the flexibility to adapt, to enable our pupils to achieve their full potential in all areas of learning. Our students' abilities range from entry-level through to higher GCSE.

- You will be supporting students to achieve their best personal outcomes in examinations and non-examination assessments.
- You'll supervise and provide support and guidance to our teaching assistants and higher-level teaching assistants.
- Our subject specialists also provide support to colleagues that work as class-teachers of all subjects in our nurture classes: subject knowledge and pedagogy.
- Naturally, you will take responsibility for implementing school policies and practices, including those relating to safeguarding and equality of opportunity. Additionally, you will also be expected to monitor the health, well-being and care of our pupils, informing care/medical/behavioural support teams and any other relevant professionals of any concerns.
Please note that duties will vary and you will be expected to contribute to the overall aims of the school when required. Please see the full job description linked at the bottom of the page.
